Legendarny filozof Lǎo Zǐ (ok. 580-470 p.n.e.)
Nazwisko Lao Zi brzmiało Li, a jego imię Er. Tytuł Lao Zi jest tytułem honorowym. Powszechnie uznaje się, że Lao Zi jest jednym z najbardziej szanowanych filozofów w historii Chin. Istnieje wiele legend na temat jego narodzin, kariery, nauczania i idei filozoficznych.
Według jednej z popularnych legend, Lao Zi został poczęty, gdy jego matka zobaczyła gwiazdę spadającą na jej kolana i pozostał w łonie matki przez 80 lat. Kiedy się urodził, był już dorosłym mężczyzną z siwą brodą i długimi płatkami uszu, symbolem szczęścia i długowieczności.
Niegdyś prowadził królewskie archiwa dworskie dla dynastii Zhou (około XI wieku – 256 r. p.n.e.). Później jednak zrezygnował z urzędu i udał się na zachód, aby szerzyć swoje idee i filozofię.
Pewnego dnia, jadąc na wołu, zbliżył się do przełęczy Hangu i został zatrzymany przez Yinxi, strażnika, który strzegł przełęczy. Jako wierny wyznawca filozofii Lao Zi, oficer natychmiast rozpoznał wielkiego mistrza. Aby jednak poprosić Lao Zi o przekazanie mu pewnej wiedzy filozoficznej, zażądał od starca oficjalnego pozwolenia na opuszczenie kraju. Lao Zi nie miał żadnego dokumentu, więc zgodził się napisać esej o swojej filozofii, liczący 5000 słów, w zamian za możliwość wyjazdu na Zachód. Esej ten okazał się słynnym „Daodejing” (znanym również jako „Tao Te Ching”), czyli „Księgą Cnoty”.
Do dziś uczeni na całym świecie wciąż debatują nad tym, czy księga ta została faktycznie napisana przez Lao Zi, czy też skompilowana przez jego uczniów i wyznawców.
Jednak wszyscy zgadzają się, że odzwierciedla ona sposób myślenia Lao Zi. W książce Lao Zi użył koncepcji Dao (Tao) do wyjaśnienia wszelkich zmian we wszechświecie. Dao, tłumaczone również jako „Droga” lub „Wielka Integralność”, jest uważane za tajemnicze źródło lub ideał wszelkiego istnienia.

I’ve been at Keats school and Kunming now for one month doing the one-on-one Chinese lessons with two different teachers. I really enjoy it. Both of my teachers are very friendly and patient. They really helped me to improve my Chinese, both of my reading and speaking. I really enjoy studying Chinese in Kunming as well. This city is really beautiful and the weather is nice, the air is clean. It’s one of the best cities in China to study Chinese.
I have really enjoyed the Chinese course in China at Keats and meeting the teachers here and the students. We have a lot of fun in class. It is a really great school to learn with good teaching methods and a really good textbook, examples and games, and everything.
My first semester that I studied at another school, and the pressure there was pretty high, the classroom hour was long, and the homework was pretty tedious. Since I came to Keats, I found I have a lot more opportunities to speak in the classroom. My classmates all are fluent and love speaking and participating in the class. We have great classroom dynamic.
Before I came to Keats School, I had no confidence in my Chinese proficiency. I did not have the confidence to speak Mandarin Chinese and chat with Chinese people. However, after 4 months of study at Keats, I become more and more confident in speaking Chinese now. Studying Chinese in China at Keats School has been the best decision I have ever made. There are many games in the class, and my teacher’s teaching methods are also very interesting. My experience at Keats School has changed my view of China and Chinese people.
I’ve had an amazing time at Keats. I am amazed at how much I’ve learned over the last 3 weeks and I will be really sad to go. We are already planning on our next trip of coming back because we had such a fantastic time here. They really tailor the Chinese language course to you and your individual needs.
