WHY LEARN MANDARIN IN KUNMING, CHINA

It’s time to start thinking about what city you’re going to choose to study in when you come to China. With China being a massive nation, with nearly 1.4 billion people, there’s a lot to think about when deciding on why you should learn the Mandarin language and where you should study it.

For many people, Kunming is their first choice. Kunming is the capital and largest city in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. The city has a population of 6 million people and is the cultural, political, economic and communications center of the province.

Kunming has beautiful weather, limited air pollution, a growing population and it’s safe. It sounds pretty nice, doesn’t it? We agree… that’s why we call this beautiful city home and hope that you will too.

In this blog post, we share with you why people are choosing Kunming as the city they want to learn Mandarin in.

STUDYING IN KUNMING WILL BE AN ADVENTURE

You’ve decided that Kunming, China is the best place for you to study Mandarin, but now you’re thinking, “what can I do when I’m not studying?”

It’s an earnest question, and we’re here to answer it for you.

Kunming, China, is known for its beautiful, breathtaking, unique landscapes and, not to mention, has the nickname “city of eternal spring.” What city could beat that?

While we could write 100 different things you need to do while studying in Kunming, three of our top locations are here.

  1. Dongchuan Red Land – If you want to look out at the landscape and be in awe that such a beautiful view exists, you’re going to want to visit Dongchuan Red Land. The colors of the land combined make it look like someone magically dropped a palette of paint on the ground to create this natural masterpiece. You can see reds, greens, whites, and yellows together in the hills.
  2. The Stone Forest – These amazing karst formations are located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, around 90km east of Kunming. The tall rocks seem to pop up from the ground, with many looking like petrified trees, which explains the name “The Stone Forest.”
  3. Kunming Dragon Gate – Just to the west of Kunming, practically right next door to Dianchi Lake, the Sleeping Buddha Hill rises above the city. The nickname was created because when you look at the Western Hills from a distance, they look like a giant sleeping Buddha.

My first semester that I studied at another school, and the pressure there was pretty high, the classroom hour was long, and the homework was pretty tedious. Since I came to Keats, I found I have a lot more opportunities to speak in the classroom. My classmates all are fluent and love speaking and participating in the class. We have great classroom dynamic.

I have been to Keats School to learn Chinese for 4 times now. The reason for coming back to this school is pretty much that the teachers I did work with were very good Chinese teachers. I make it a 5-year plan or even a 10-year plan to come back to this school.  All the teachers have methods of looking at what your skills are. They are aware of at what level you are. I think it is worth for everyone.
