En legendarisk filosof Lǎo Zǐ (cirka 580-470 f.Kr.)
Lao Zis efternamn var Li och hans förnamn var Er. Lao Zi är en hederstitel. Det är allmänt erkänt att Lao Zi är en av de mest vördade filosoferna i kinesisk historia. Det finns många legender om hans födelse, karriär, undervisning och filosofiska idéer.
Enligt en populär legend blev Lao Zi till när hans mor såg en stjärna falla i hennes knä och han stannade i livmodern i 80 år. När han föddes var han redan en vuxen man med grått skägg och långa örsnibbar, en symbol för lycka och långt liv.
Han förvarade en gång det kungliga hovets arkiv för Zhou-dynastin (cirka 1100-talet-256 f.Kr.). Men han avgick senare och begav sig västerut för att sprida sina idéer och sin filosofi.
En dag, medan han red på en oxe, närmade han sig Hangu-passet och stoppades av Yinxi, en vaktpost som bemannade passet. Som en trogen anhängare av Lao Zis filosofi kände officeren omedelbart igen den store mästaren. Men för att be Lao Zi lära honom något om sin filosofi krävde officeren att den gamle mannen skulle visa upp ett officiellt tillstånd att lämna landet. Lao Zi hade inga dokument, så han gick med på att skriva en 5 000 ord lång essä om sin filosofi i utbyte mot resa till väst. Den essän visade sig vara den berömda Daodejing (även ”Tao Te Ching”), eller ”Dygdens Bok”.
Idag debatterar forskare världen över fortfarande huruvida boken faktiskt skrevs av Lao Zi eller sammanställdes av hans elever och lärjungar.
Alla är dock överens om att boken återspeglar Lao Zis tänkande. I boken använde Lao Zi konceptet Dao (Tao) för att förklara alla förändringar i universum. Dao, som också har översatts till ”Väg” eller ”Stor integritet”, anses vara den mystiska källan eller idealet för alla existenser.
Lao Tzus ”Tao Te Ching” är en klassiker inom kinesisk filosofi. Det bästa sättet att förstå detta verk på djupet är att komma till Kina och delta i en heltidskurs i kinesiska. There are many games in the class, and my teacher’s teaching methods are also very interesting. My experience at Keats School has changed my view of China and Chinese people.
I think the Chinese learning environment here is great. The teaching methods are also very interactive and fun. What I particularly enjoy here is the fact that my teacher does not stick to the textbook. We spend a lot of time discussing general topics, such as Chinese culture, world news, typical expressions used by local people. We also discuss social and economic topics.
I have been to Keats School to learn Chinese for 4 times now. The reason for coming back to this school is pretty much that the teachers I did work with were very good Chinese teachers. I make it a 5-year plan or even a 10-year plan to come back to this school. All the teachers have methods of looking at what your skills are. They are aware of at what level you are. I think it is worth for everyone.
I really enjoy studying Chinese in Kunming at Keats. The teachers are great and my classmates are awesome. It is an unforgettable experience for me. I also got the chance to travel to other places in Yunnan. Those places are amazing and you definitely need to visit these places when you study Chinese in China at Keats.
I think Kunming is a great city, the weather is really good. I really like Keats school and found it is very organized. The teachers here are very good. They have a coffee shop and new classrooms, a new lounge area here now, so you can chill out with your friends and practice your spoken Chinese with natives. If you’re considering coming to Keats to study, I would really recommend it. It’s the best place to learn Mandarin and I think it will be a great experience for you.
I have to say it’s tons of fun. I have been here for 2 weeks. Not knowing what it was gonna be like, I was more than surprised at how great it is. The teachers are great, they are understanding. They do a Chinese language program that suits just you. The location is perfect for learning Chinese in China.

The visa application was really straightforward, because Keats School helps us a lot with that. Keats has a big emphasis on conversational practice, so we learn a lot of vocabulary and daily life plans which is very convenient for us to go around town and speak with Chinese people which is the whole point of learning Chinese in China.
