LEARN MANDARIN IN CHINA – KUNMING’S COST OF LIVING

For anyone packing their bags and heading to study Chinese in China, money will be on your mind. Instead of panicking about the cost of living and if you can afford a Chinese language program in China, read this article.

We will explain to you why Keats School in Kunming is the best choice when it comes to learning Mandarin in China and we’ll give you some examples of the low cost of living in the city.

KEATS SCHOOL

Every year hundreds of people from around the world decide to study Mandarin in China at Keats school. They choose Keats because it’s located in the beautiful city of Kunming and because it’s affordable.

While most Chinese language courses in China are separate from housing and food, Keats includes everything in its tuition. This ends up saving students hundreds of dollars and a big headache when it comes to budgeting. So, what’s included in the Keats School tuition?

STUDY PROGRAM

Keats School offers eight “study in China for international students” programs. Keats specializes in intensive one-on-one Chinese classes that are customizable for each new student.

We work with students to pick how long the course should be, the type of learning that works best for them, and the number of hours spent in the classroom. Having 18 years of research experience teaching Chinese and maintaining solid social networking, Keats School has developed different programs to meet individuals’ goals.

Within the intensive one-on-one class, you can choose to study Mandarin for either four or six hours a day.

Please feel free to check out the study Mandarin in China programs at Keats.

HOUSING

When it comes to Mandarin in China, housing is included in Keats tuition for all classes except small group classes.

Single rooms are offered, and double rooms can be arranged for couples or families. If one student requests to live in one double room, extra cost occurs. Each comes with a private bathroom!

One of the best benefits of housing at Keats is that students do not have to catch a bus and rush to the school from where they live. Students can sleep and study in the same building.

This is really hard to find when you are learning Chinese in China.

However, we should mention, if you register very late for your ideal study Mandarin course, you may only get a room in Keats Accommodation Part 2.

Part 2 is not in the same building where the school is located and is about 5 minutes from the school.

Included with the housing, students also have access to free internet and laundry.

If you decided to study Mandarin in Shanghai, you would have to rent an apartment during your study abroad experience. A one-bedroom apartment in Shanghai is going for 7,068 ¥ currently, which equals $1,378 a month in rental fees on top of Mandarin language lessons.

MEALS

When it comes to the cost of living in China while studying Chinese, people often think about the price of food. According to Numbeo, Kunming has a cheaper living cost than other Chinese cities like Shanghai or Beijing.

A meal at a fairly priced restaurant in Kunming will cost 18.00 ¥, which is the equivalent to $3.50 CAD. In Shanghai, the same meal would cost approximately 30.00 ¥.

Another benefit of Keats is that meals are actually included in the tuition too! When you pick your study Mandarin in China class option, you will also be treated to 3 meals a day during the week.

Keats cafeteria uses healthy vegetables that are directly bought from farmers. We never use frozen meat; instead, all meat we prepare is fresh. We make sure to use the best oil in China to cook as well.

These small differences make a huge difference for students. If you’re a vegetarian, don’t fret, we have options available for you too.

We provide fresh vegetables, fruits, bread, cakes, fried rice, and Yunnan rice noodles for breakfast. We also have breakfast staples like fried eggs, yogurt, cereal, milk, and coffee.

Keats cafeteria uses freshly roasted coffee made from Arabica beans, the most flavourful and aromatic beans. We freshly grind and brew this coffee every weekday morning. We know how important it is for you to start your study day off with a coffee, so we’re providing you with the best of the best.

After studying Mandarin for a couple of hours, your stomach will probably start growling. We cook a hot lunch for all Keats students. At lunch, we provide 10 delicious Chinese dishes with dumplings and rice. At Keats, two of our most popular dishes are tomato with scrambled eggs and gongbao chicken.

After the day is over and you’ve filled your brain with Mandarin knowledge, you’re going to be hungry again. Every night at Keats we prepare 10 different Chinese dishes with fruits and rice available for all students.

On the weekends, we recommend our international students explore the city to find their meals. Kunming, China, has many affordable food options.

Some of our favorite restaurants we encourage our students to visit on the weekend include Mamafu’s, Chim Thai, Dai Minority Restaurant, Flying Tiggers, etc.

HOBBIES AND FITNESS

It’s important to maintain some hobbies while you’re away learning Mandarin in China.

For many people, what they want is a gym membership to a fitness center. A monthly fitness club membership will cost 358.00 ¥ or $69, CAD in cities like Shanghai.

But, you might have guessed, if you’re studying at Keats School in Kunming, China, you have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center.

The Keats School Fitness Centre has many different pieces of equipment to use, and it’s open all day, every day, for your convenience.

SAVE MONEY – STUDY AT KEATS

We hope this shows you that not only will you be getting personalized Learn Chinese courses, but your tuition will go further than just the classroom.

I decided to learn Chinese in Kunming because I like smaller cities and I like the climate here. We had four hours a day study here and my dear teacher taught me very much and never lost her patience with me. It was a really wonderful experience to be here and I recommend Keats school and the teachers here to everyone who likes to learn Chinese in China.

I really enjoy coming here because it is like kind of a home for me. It is a great environment to learn Mandarin Chinese in China and meet great people from all over the world. Everyone here is extremely friendly. Kunming has a really nice climate. It is a very good mix of the modern city and also a lot of historic Chinese culture. Probably got the cleanest air in China and possibly the cleanest water too. I invite you to come to study Chinese in Kunming.

I really enjoy this place because we have private Mandarin lessons. I took the 6-hour program, 4 hours in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. Even though it is quite a lot, the teaching is complimentary. This is very helpful because I could review what I did before and learn new things. My 2 teachers are fantastic. We live in the school, so it is convenient. It is interesting to me to meet people from all over the world.

The visa application was really straightforward, because Keats School helps us a lot with that. Keats has a big emphasis on conversational practice, so we learn a lot of vocabulary and daily life plans which is very convenient for us to go around town and speak with Chinese people which is the whole point of learning Chinese in China.

It has been notable because I have met a lot of people who I met first time last year like me to come back to Keats this year. The teaching has been fantastic. The teachers carefully prepare each lesson. I think this one-on-one approach is really a great way to rapidly increase your level of Chinese and increase your confidence and fluency with the language.

In the one-to-one intensive Chinese course, you can choose the learning method you like. The small group Chinese class in China at Keats follows the HSK textbook. Teachers often collect feedback from the students, teachers listen to our requirements and opinions. I felt that my oral level is better than before .

We are already planning on our next trip of coming back because we had such a fantastic time here. They really tailor the Chinese language course to you and your individual needs.

Before I came to Keats School, I had no confidence in my Chinese proficiency. I did not have the confidence to speak Mandarin Chinese and chat with Chinese people. However, after 4 months of study at Keats, I become more and more confident in speaking Chinese now. Studying Chinese in China at Keats School has been the best decision I have ever made. There are many games in the class, and my teacher’s teaching methods are also very interesting. My experience at Keats School has changed my view of China and Chinese people.
