Legendaarinen filosofi Lǎo Zǐ (noin 580-470 eKr.)
Lao Zi’n sukunimi oli Li ja hänen oikea nimensä oli Er. Lao Zi on kunnianimi. Lao Zi on yleisesti tunnustettu yksi Kiinan historian kunnioitetuimmista filosofeista. Hänen syntymästään, urastaan, opetuksestaan ja filosofisista ajatuksistaan on lukuisia legendoja.
Erään suositun legendan mukaan Lao Zi siitettiin, kun hänen äitinsä näki tähden putoavan syliinsä, ja hän pysyi kohdussa 80 vuotta. Syntyessään hän oli jo aikuinen mies, jolla oli harmaa parta ja pitkät korvanlehdet, jotka symboloivat onnea ja pitkäikäisyyttä.
Hän piti aikoinaan kuninkaallisen hovin arkistoja Zhou-dynastian ajalta (noin 1000-luku – 256 eaa.). Myöhemmin hän kuitenkin erosi ja meni länteen levittämään ajatuksiaan ja filosofiaansa.
Eräänä päivänä ratsastaessaan härällä hän lähestyi Hangun solaa ja solan vartija Yinxi pysäytti hänet. Lao Zi’n filosofian uskollisena seuraajana upseeri tunnisti suuren mestarin heti. Mutta pyytääkseen Lao Zi’ta opettamaan hänelle jotakin filosofiastaan upseeri vaati vanhaa miestä esittämään virallisen luvan poistua maasta. Lao Zi’lla ei ollut asiakirjaa, joten hän suostui kirjoittamaan 5 000 sanan esseen filosofiastaan vastineeksi matkasta länteen. Essee osoittautui kuuluisaksi Daodejingiksi (myös ”Tao Te Ching”) eli ”Hyveen kirjaksi”.
Tutkijat ympäri maailmaa keskustelevat edelleen siitä, kirjoittiko kirjan Lao Zi itse vai kokosivatko sen hänen oppilaansa ja opetuslapsensa.
He kaikki ovat kuitenkin yhtä mieltä siitä, että kirja heijastaa Lao Zi ajattelua. Kirjassa Lao Zi käytti Dao (Tao) -käsitettä selittääkseen kaikkia maailmankaikkeuden muutoksia. My first semester that I studied at another school, and the pressure there was pretty high, the classroom hour was long, and the homework was pretty tedious. Since I came to Keats, I found I have a lot more opportunities to speak in the classroom. My classmates all are fluent and love speaking and participating in the class. We have great classroom dynamic.
I really enjoy studying Chinese in Kunming at Keats. The teachers are great and my classmates are awesome. It is an unforgettable experience for me. I also got the chance to travel to other places in Yunnan. Those places are amazing and you definitely need to visit these places when you study Chinese in China at Keats.
Last year I started studying Chinese at University. The reason that I came here is that currently, I’m preparing for the HSK 5 test. Also, I heard that this is one of the best schools to study Mandarin in China. After I came here I realized that Kunming is a pretty cool city to live in and with regards to the teachers’ teaching methods, I think they’re very professional. And I think the language environment is good so now I’m ready to take the HSK 5.
I really enjoy coming here because it is like kind of a home for me. It is a great environment to learn Mandarin Chinese in China and meet great people from all over the world. Everyone here is extremely friendly. Kunming has a really nice climate. It is a very good mix of the modern city and also a lot of historic Chinese culture. Probably got the cleanest air in China and possibly the cleanest water too. I invite you to come to study Chinese in Kunming.
I have been to Keats School to learn Chinese for 4 times now. The reason for coming back to this school is pretty much that the teachers I did work with were very good Chinese teachers. I make it a 5-year plan or even a 10-year plan to come back to this school. All the teachers have methods of looking at what your skills are. They are aware of at what level you are. I think it is worth for everyone.
It has been notable because I have met a lot of people who I met first time last year like me to come back to Keats this year. The teaching has been fantastic. The teachers carefully prepare each lesson. I think this one-on-one approach is really a great way to rapidly increase your level of Chinese and increase your confidence and fluency with the language.
The visa application was really straightforward, because Keats School helps us a lot with that. Keats has a big emphasis on conversational practice, so we learn a lot of vocabulary and daily life plans which is very convenient for us to go around town and speak with Chinese people which is the whole point of learning Chinese in China.
About studying Chinese here, I think the living condition is very convenient because the dorm is very close to the classroom. Our teachers really enjoy teaching Chinese. They are also very passionate. Compared with other cities in China, Kunming has really good weather.
